Future Day in Jõhvi | Station Narva

The Station Narva Future Day, taking place on Friday, 4 September, will turn its attention to the music, film and creative industries of Ida-Viru County in collaboration with Music Estonia, a development centre for music entrepreneurship. During the first half of the day, participants will have the chance to visit the Jõhvi Film Campus before its official opening and discuss the potential for organising major events in the region. In the afternoon, the programme continues in Narva, focusing – among other topics – on musicians from Ida-Viru, cooperation between the music sector and local governments, and Narva's potential bid to become European Capital of Culture again in 2036.

The Future Day welcomes music and creative industry professionals, entrepreneurs and event organisers from Ida-Viru County as well as from across Estonia.

Opening officially in Jõhvi in October, IDA Hub is an international film campus and creative technology centre featuring virtual studios, office spaces, and film and creative industry accelerators. Alongside traditional film production, the campus will also develop VR/AR technologies. This large-scale project, unique in the Baltic region, will bring international productions to Ida-Viru, create high value-added jobs and provide a springboard to international markets. Ida-Viru is home to a vibrant and exciting music scene, and the region has produced a number of artists who have made an impact across Estonia and beyond. But how do musicians move from the local scene to a wider audience? Musicians with roots in Ida-Viru will talk about their identity, choices and turning points; the role their background and environment have played in their careers; the connections and opportunities that have helped them reach beyond their local community; and what is still missing today to make this path easier for the next generation of artists.

16:45–17:30 Discussion: how to build a cultural capital? Cooperation between the music sector and local government

How can local governments and the music sector work together to create a vibrant, visible and sustainable local music scene? We will discuss how to build an environment where local talent can grow and new initiatives emerge, while music contributes to a city's identity and attractiveness. We will explore what kind of cooperation and long-term vision are needed from both sides, and how the steps taken today can help shape a strong cultural city – and perhaps, in future, a European Capital of Culture.

Representatives of local governments and cultural organisers from the region are all welcome to join the discussion.

SPOT is a series of music entrepreneurship days organised by Music Estonia, bringing together music industry professionals, entrepreneurs and enthusiasts in cities across Estonia. The events explore the impact of music on regional culture, the economy and community life, while examining the role of different regions in the development of Estonia's music sector. SPOT has previously taken place in Pärnu, Tartu and Viljandi, and now arrives in Ida-Viru County in collaboration with Station Narva.

Participation in the Station Narva Future Day events is subject to registration.

Transport on the Narva–Jõhvi–Narva route and a light lunch will be provided. Participants arriving from elsewhere in Estonia can join the Jõhvi–Narva transfer. Participants will also have the opportunity to purchase a Station Narva festival pass or day ticket at a discounted rate – details will be sent after registration.

Please indicate if you would like transport from Tallinn to Jõhvi in the morning and from Narva back to Tallinn in the evening. If there is sufficient interest, we will organise a shared transfer.
